Sun salutations are used to greet the morning sun and honor it as it rises. We thank the sun for all its bountiful blessings that it brings to this earth and we harness its energy with an invigorating and simple sequence. I love this morning flow because it brings energy and fire to my entire body and clarity to my mind, making it the perfect class to do just before our guided meditation as we close our practice and vibrate the cosmos! Why does tacking on a short meditation to the end of your yoga practice, like we do in this class, matter so much? Beyond centering and grounding you for the day ahead, it reminds you of your bigger identity. Yes, part of you has preferences, opinions, and loathes (or loves!) raspberry cheesecake. But part of you is elevated in a perpetual state of grace, compassion, and calm. The meditation at the end of this class reminds you that you and the universe are made up of the same stuff. As much as you are YOU, you are also universal consciousness.
