Blog Marketing Academy

Training platform and support community built to help YOU learn to build your dream online business

Want to build a blog that fuels the life you want to live? Need help building your business up and working out the tech to make it work? Without any complexity, hype, or bullcrap? Great! That's why I'm here. Let me introduce myself...

Hi, I'm David Risley

David is a veteran blogger and online entrepreneur, having founded a technology blog in 1998 and growing it into a six-figure, multi-author business which was found in publications like PC World, PC Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal. He turned that blog into a commercial success using a combination of advertising, affiliate revenue, online courses, writing and selling books and CDs, and even a membership site before it was cool.

In 2008, he founded the Blog Marketing Academy and launched his first training course for bloggers with an $80k launch. Since then, he has gone on to launch over 24 separate training programs and has worked with thousands of students on their blogs, in every niche you could think of. All of this has now been brought to THE LAB, the training and support platform of the Blog Marketing Academy.

But what David is most proud of is his ability to make things simple.. and make the complicated approachable.

He has this weird obsession with traveling and camping in his motorhome around the country with his wife and 2 kids. You might find him sitting in a folding chair, in a campsite, smoking the occasional cigar.

David also likes to talk about himself in the third person. In bios like this one. It's weird, really.

My Foundational Beliefs

  • I believe money is made online by delivering real value and transformations to the lives of your customers, not by manipulation.
  • I believe that a blog is the most powerful marketing platform that exists, IF you use it right.
  • I believe that a blog doesn’t make money – a business does.
  • I believe banner ads suck and that they are the worst way to monetize a blog.
  • I believe that a profitable online business can and should be based in honesty and delivering maximum value.
  • I believe in being a straight shooter and not blowing smoke or wasting people's time.

Why I Do What I Do

I remember sitting in grade school when I was a kid. Looking out the window of the classroom at the outside world, watching the cars going by. I remember thinking how lucky they were because.... they were free. While I was stuck in school.

Of course, I grew up some and realized that adults just changed the walls. When you're a kid, it's the classroom you don't want to be in. When you're older, it's the walls of your job.

No thank you. I don't want to be told where I have to be and when. I want to live life on my own terms.

So, in college, I decided to buck the trend and NOT look for a job after school. I decided to see if I could make this hobby tech blog I had started work. And, I did.

Today, I do what I do because I want my whole family to be able to live life on our terms. We love to travel (and often do in our RV) and I want to be able to do that freely. My wife works with me now, and we homeschool our kids.

Building real businesses around my blogs is what has enabled this lifestyle for me and my family. And I firmly believe nobody should have to live life in a cubicle unless they want to. The Blog Marketing Academy is here to bring my experience to others who would like to design their own lifestyle the way they please.
